Like many aspects of wearing a wig many things will be about personal preference. There are no set rules when it comes to wearing wigs. But you’ll want do whatever is necessary to feel as comfortable as possible when wearing a wig. Sometimes that will mean wearing a wig cap under a wig.
Very much like a bathing cap, a wig cap is a mesh or netting that is worn under the wig. There are many reasons one might choose to wear a wig cap.
PROS
-Security – it can help prevent the wig from slipping or moving around.
-Wearing a wig cap keeps the hair underneath the cap flat and evenly distributed and contained under the wig.
-Comfort – A wig cap can help protect a sensitive scalp from itching or irritation.
-Sweating- A cap is a good idea if one sweats excessively when wearing a wig. Since you’ll want to wash your wig as infrequently as possible you can wash the wig cap and avoid having to wash the wig unnecessarily.
If you have no hair you may want to purchase a wig cap in the same color as your hair verses a nude tone- this helps avoid seeing bald spots if the hair moves and exposes the net.

- -It can feel restrictive and cause the wearer to overheat.
- -Some feel the wig cap adds pressure and gives them a headache.
- -Some find that it causes itching.
The choice to wear a wig cap will come down to whether or not it feels more comfortable for you.
If you decide to wear a wig cap here is how to put it on your head.
- 1. If you have hair- gather it in a low ponytail at the base of your neck. If you have a lot of hair you may want to gather it into two ponytails on the sides.
- 2.Put the cap on so that it rests on your natural hairline. It should sit behind the ears and rest at the base of the neck.
- 3.Tuck any hair that may have escaped underneath the cap.
- 4.Move and adjust the cap until you feel comfortable.
If you are comfortable you’re more likely to feel confident wearing your wig, and while a wig cap is optional , confidence is definitely a must when putting on your wig.
